We were promised and delivered three fast-paced, action packed, special effects rich movies. Tom Cruise made almost $210 million off them. Both fans and Tom Cruise get another bite of the cherry as a new release of one of the best known movie franchises, Mission Impossible, is almost here.

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol premieres in December (December 16 at IMAX and December 21 everywhere else) around the world. In Ghana, it will premiere on December 16 at the SilverBird Cinema at the Accra Mall, according to the cinema’s website.

Blamed for the terrosist bombing of the Kremlin,IMF Operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates “Ghost Protocol”. Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency’s name and prevent another attck. To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to emabrk on this misson with a team of fellow IMF operatives whose personal motives he does not know fully.

Tom Cruise returns in the lead role of Ethan Hunt for the fourth time alongside Ving Rhames ( as Luther Stickell) aslo from all the previous movies. Simon Pegg also returns as Benji Dunn from Mission Impossible 3. Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyviqst, Vladmir Maskhov, Josh holloway, Anil Kapoor and Lea Seydoux complete the star studded international cast, all of whom are first timers on the franchise.

The movie is directed by Brad Bird and produced by Tom Cruise and J.J. Abbrams. Brad Bird is a two time Oscar winner for two Animated Feature Films, The Incredibles (2004) and Ratatouille (2007), with most of his career centred around animation. Whether this is enough credentials to work on a franchise like Mission Impossible, we will know when viewers give their verdict.

Tom Cruise has also been a producer on the previous three Mission Impossible movies. JJ Abbrams is not new to the franchise, he directed Mission Impossible III and has been involved in other blockbusters like Armageddon and Star Trek.

Tough economic times mean everyone even movie stars feel the pinch. Tom Cruise it seems is taking a vastly reduced upfront salary, about $12.5 million according to IMDB, down from the approximately $25 millon a movie he usually receives.

The previous three movies made him a minimum of $70 million each for both acting and producing since he had gross participation rights. Mission: Impossible (1996) – $70 million (including gross participation); Mission: Impossible II (2000) – $75 million (including gross participation); Mission: Impossible III (2006) – $75 million. However if the movies is vastly profitable he will make additional revenue from backend fees and rights he has for Mission Impossible 4.

See the trailer for the thrills, spills and gadgets you are looking forward to seeing on December 16 at the SilverBird Cinema. Your mission is simple, get there in time before all the other fans!
